In celebration of Founder's Day, we conducted a fund-raiser while also appreciating faculty and staff members at Berry. We set up a “booth” in the student center where students or faculty/staff members could purchase a notecard, attached to a MoonPie, and send it to a faculty or staff member they care about or appreciate. They were given the opportunity to write a note on the inside of the card commemorating 100 years of KDP. We delivered the MoonPies the next day.

For Founder’s Day, we purchased a birthday cake for Kappa Delta Pi, set up a table in the lobby of the education building on campus, and shared our cake with students. While they feasted on cake, we talked with them about KDP and how they could be involved. Later that day, chapter members held a meeting, where we served food and reminded ourselves what it means to be in Kappa Delta Pi. We were able to meet with one other and share our thoughts about upcoming events. We are all looking forward to many more years with Kappa Delta Pi.

We gave KDP cookies to the Dean's office of the College of Education and the Department of Childhood Literacy. We held initiation on March 6th and, as part of the program, Dr. Arleen Mariotti gave a brief history of KDP and what KDP has meant to her personally throughout her career. The featured speaker was Dr. Jennifer Schneider, a KDP member, who spoke on "The One Teaching Thing I Know."

Several weeks prior to Founder's Day, our chapter began collecting stories about inspirational educators, written in a 300-word essay format from people within the Rowan University community. These were compiled into a self-published book, "Lessons from My Teacher: Honoring Those Who Inspire Us," which we made available for purchase at our Founder's Day Celebration. In addition, many of the people who submitted stories were on hand to read them aloud, as were some of the teachers whose students had honored them in the books. We recognized them for their outstanding contributions to the field of education by presenting them with a pink carnation to symbolize our appreciation. Refreshments were served, and attendees were invited to take time to mingle and learn more about the history of KDP through visuals and a brief presentation by our chapter historian as we gathered together as a university community to celebrate the accomplishments of outstanding educators.
