Put Some KDP Fire into Your Fund-Raising Efforts!
Other KDP chapters want to hear about all of your successful ways to raise fun and funds for your chapter—and especially for Convo 2011. Your idea may even ignite so much enthusiasm that it spreads an educational fire and burning success to other KDP colleagues!

Submit
your ideas to ‘fire up’ successful Kappa Delta Pi fund-raisers for all of our chapters. After review, your idea will be posted to this Web page, along with your name and chapter information! Also, be sure to network with other KDP educators in our Facebook community for the Centennial Celebration.

Looking forward to seeing you at Convocation 2011!

In the spirit of celebrating the 100th birthday of Kappa Delta Pi, let’s raise 100 (or more) fund-raising ideas! If your idea is the 100th submitted, your chapter name and fund-raising idea will receive special recognition on this KDP Web page. Your chapter also will receive one free night at the JW Marriot Hotel during Convo 2011.

Watch this video for fund-raising ideas from the Sigma Tau Chapter at Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York.

“Flocking to Convo” Fund-Raiser! Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough
Be Sweet & Support Kappa Delta Pi!

“Flocking to Convo” Fund-Raiser!

Chapter: Iota Sigma Chapter, University of Rhode Island
Event Name: “Flocking to Convo” Fund-Raiser! (Dr. Diane Kern, Chair)
Purpose of Event: Raising money to support our chapter’s activities and to send several KDP members to celebrate Kappa Delta Pi’s 100-year legacy at Convocation 2011.

Materials: Plastic pink flamingos, including one purple flamingo per flock.

Description: In the still of a fall 2010 night, Kappa Delta Pi members from the Iota Sigma Chapter will place pink plastic flamingos in the yards of the friends that our supporters have paid to be “flamingoed.”

Steps:

Each of the flocks will be led by a purple flamingo, our KDP mascot, which has a note around its neck explaining how a friend of theirs has paid for them to be “flamingoed” in support of KDP.

The note will let them know that if they make a donation to KDP, we will remove the flock and send it to the yard of any friend they choose.

Friends and supporters of KDP also can purchase “Flamingo Insurance” to ensure that their lawns do not get “flamingoed!”

The “Flocking to Convo” Fund-Raiser will continue to feed on itself from September to November as the flamingos migrate from donor to donor.

Time of Year: Fall
Number of Members Involved: As many members needed to support your chapter’s fund-raising goals.

Chapter: Eta Iota Chapter, Edinboro University of Pennsylvania

Event Name: Be Sweet & Support Kappa Delta Pi! (Dr. Mary Jo Melvin, Chair)

Purpose of Event: Raising money through chocolate bar sales to support our chapter’s activities and help KDP members attend Convo 2011.

Materials: Local chocolate bar company (your local candy company) and KDP members.

Description: As students, we are always HUNGRY during our classes! We visit the candy and vending machines to get the same old chips or chocolate. Every spring at Edinboro University, this reality is changed with the annual “Be Sweet & Support Kappa Delta Pi!” chocolate bar sale.

Steps:

Using Daffin’s Chocolates, a regional chocolate company, members take boxes of variety chocolate bars to their week of classes.

Throughout the week, members sell the candy bars to classmates for $1.00 each, netting our chapter a profit of $0.50 per candy bar.

This local candy company even supports our Chapter by throwing a few FREE candy bars into each box we sell, providing even MORE profits for the Eta Iota Chapter! This simple, but effective, fund-raiser has netted our Chapter at least $1,200 each year . . . but typically more!

Event Name: Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough

Purpose of Event: Raise money to attend Convo 2011

Materials: stereo, speakers, microphone, a really annoying song, table, chairs, a sign, receptacle to collect money, spare money as change

Description: Repeatedly play a song so irritating that people pay you to turn it off!

Steps:

Set up a stereo and speakers in a spot on campus where there is a lot of walking traffic.
Announce through the microphone that you are going to play the annoying song (ex. “Mmmbop” by Hansen) on a loop until the chapter reaches a certain financial goal (ex. $500).
Create and post a sign announcing that people can donate money for you to turn off this annoying song!
Arrange for members to relieve other members who have been overseeing the stereo for too long.
