ESSAY CONTEST
To celebrate the evolution of education and Kappa Delta Pi’s place in that evolution, the Society sponsored an essay contest on the topic “So to Teach, So to Serve, So to Live: Past, Present, and Future of Education.” There were three different essay categories to be judged: 1) undergrads and graduate students; 2) preK–12 practicing educators; and 3) university faculty members and preK–16 educational administrators. The three overall winning essays (one in each category) will be published in a 2011 issue of the Kappa Delta Pi Record. Additionally, the three winning essays and finalists’ essays will be published in an anthology to be distributed at the KDP Convocation. Each of the winners and finalists are rewarded with a two-year membership to Kappa Delta Pi (value $70). The top winner in each category also receives a free registration to the 2011 Convocation.
TIME CAPSULE
The time capsule will be closed at the Convo 2011 Closing Banquet. There will be a group picture taken of everyone in the banquet hall to include in the capsule. Also enclosed will be a register of each attendee’s signature; up to three pages, two-sided, of chapter history from each chapter; a Convo program; annual report; and other items. Be there and become part of KDP history!
DECADES DANCE
Come celebrate 100 years of KDP at the Convo Counting Down the Decades Dance! After the Closing Banquet, the celebration continues at the Decades Dance Saturday night. Chapters are invited to participate by preparing a dance from one of the decades in the past 100 years. Here are some possibilities: the Waltz from 1911; the Charleston from the 1920s; the Rumba from the 1930s; the Jitterbug from the 1940s; Rock ’n Roll from the 1950s; the Twist from the 1960s; Disco dancing from the 1970s; Breakdancing from the 1980s; the Macarena from the 1990s; and modern dance since 2000. Is your chapter interested in representing a decade by showcasing a dance and modeling steps for attendees to join in? You might want to consider choosing the decade when your chapter was chartered. Participating chapters will collaborate with the Dance Coordinator to choose a song and then prepare dance routines, including props and costumes. Click here to access the participation form.
