Dr. Michael W. Apple
Dr. Michael W. Apple has been a Professor of Educational Policy since the early 1970s at the University of Wisconsin–Madison. He teaches courses in curriculum theory, development, and research, and the sociology of curriculum. With his major interests focusing on the relationship between culture and power in education and in democratizing educational policy and practice, Apple has been internationally recognized for his work in what is known as “critical pedagogy,” a lens from which power and inequality are explored.

Any synopsis of Apple’s career must highlight how he has authored or edited more than 50 books—including two that came out earlier this year and two others (Ideology and Curriculum and Official Knowledge) that are recognized as being among the most influential publications on education in the 20th century. These works have been translated into more than 20 languages.
