Announcing the 2018 National Student Teacher of the Year, Parth Shah
(INDIANAPOLIS)—Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, and the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) are honored to recognize Parth Shah of Morgan Hill, California, as recipient of the 2018 KDP/ATE National Student Teacher of the Year Award.

Earth Charter International and KDP Join Forces to Foster Excellence in Education
(San José, Costa Rica)—As we celebrate the Summer solstice, we welcome a new partnership between Earth Charter International and Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education. With both organizations working for many years in the field of quality education and dedicated to supporting teachers, it was only a matter of time for them to meet and join forces. The partnership envisions collaboration on Education for Sustainable Development Programs articulated in the Earth Charter values.

KDP and CourseNetworking Team Up to Support New Teachers
(INDIANAPOLIS)—Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, is partnering with CourseNetworking (CN), an innovative Indianapolis-based technology company in education, to draw on the Society’s rich legacy of high standards and excellence to support the professional growth and retention of new teachers.

Announcing the 2017 National Student Teacher of the Year, Cerelia Diaz
(INDIANAPOLIS)—Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) and the Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) are honored to announce that Cerelia Diaz of Harlingen, Texas, is the recipient of the 2017 KDP/ATE National Student Teacher of the Year Award.

Educational Associations Join Forces, Advocate Literacy as a Constitutional Right
In collaboration with peers from the International Literacy Association (ILA), a global advocacy and membership organization dedicated to advancing literacy, and the National Association for Multicultural Education (NAME), an international organization whose mission is to advance and advocate for equity and social justice through multicultural education, Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an international organization committed to quality education for all, extends support to the issues of literacy brought to light in a recent federal class action lawsuit in the state of Michigan.

DECEMBER
Kappa Delta Pi Calls for Quality Teacher Recruitment Efforts
Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education, along with 24 other organizations, has issued a joint statement affirming their strong support of high standards in education and calling for united efforts to recruit quality and diverse candidates into the teaching profession.

Edward’s University’s Mckenna Dunn named 2016 National Student Teacher of the Year
McKenna Dunn is the 2016 recipient of the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP)/Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) National Student Teacher/Intern of the Year Award.

Beaufort High School's Stephanie Kelley Named Kappa Delta PI ‘Master Teacher Of Honor’
Stephanie Kelley, Spanish Teacher at Beaufort High School in South Carolina, is the latest recipient of the Master Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education. As only the second award recipient of 2016, she joins an exclusive and elite group of educators who have been recognized with this honor.

APRIL
TEA Region 18 Education Service Center Dr. Reynaldo Lagasca Duran Named Kappa Delta Pi ‘Master Teacher of Honor’
Dr. Reynaldo Lagasca Duran, Regional Mathematics Specialist for Texas Education Agency’s Region 18 Education Service Center, is the latest recipient of the Master Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education. As the first award recipient of 2016, he joins an exclusive and elite group of educators who have been recognized with this honor.

Laurel High School's Luis J. Pentón Herrera Named Kappa Delta Pi Teacher of Honor
Luis Javier Pentón Herrera, an ESOL teacher at Laurel High School in Laurel, MD is the latest recipient of the Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. Herrera joins a select group of educators who have been recognized with this honor.


2015
OCTOBER 1
Kappa Delta Pi to Host Chinese Principals
Twenty-eight Chinese high school principals will end their American vacation and begin their professional development at Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) beginning Friday, October 2, 2015. After several days in Washington, D.C. and New York City, the educators are coming to Indiana to work. In cooperation with the Chinese Education Connection (CEC), KDP staff and educators from several central Indiana schools will introduce the Chinese to the American public education system, which substantially differs from their own. KDP and CEC have learned through previous experiences with groups of principals that there will be several surprises are in store for the Huzhou, Zhejiang Province, school executives.

Lake Travis Independent School District’s Mary Anne “Mo” O’Brien Named Kappa Delta Pi ‘Teacher of Honor’
Mary Anne “Mo” O’Brien, a teacher at Hudson Bend Middle School in Austin, Texas, is the latest recipient of the Teacher of Honor Award from Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), International Honor Society in Education. O’Brien joins a select group of educators who have been recognized with this honor.

SEPTEMBER 1
Rowan University’s Richard Heggan Named 2015 National Student Teacher of the Year
Richard (Rick) Heggan, 2015 graduate and currently teaching sixth and eighth grade science at Neeta School in Medford Lakes, New Jersey, is the 2015 recipient of the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP)/Association of Teacher Educators (ATE) National Student Teacher of the Year Award. Heggan is a 2014 Kappa Delta Pi initiate of the Eta Psi Chapter at Rowan University.

JUNE 5
Kappa Delta Pi Wins REVERE Award for Kappa Delta Pi Record
Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education, is pleased to announce that the Kappa Delta Pi Record was presented an award for Professional Magazines at the REVERE Awards Gala on June 3. The award was given for the creation of the “Telling Stories” department of the journal, which was designed to share universal lessons through personal narratives.

Passing of A. Keith Turkett
It is with great sadness that the Society announces the passing of KDP Past President A. Keith Turkett. He was an initiate of Zeta Iota Chapter at East Tennessee State University and president of Kappa Delta Pi from 1974-1976.

Nu Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi Donates Books to Schools
The Nu Zeta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, part of the College of Education at Armstrong State University, recently handed out more than 2,000 books to Sarah Mills Hodge Elementary School students in Savannah in connection with Literacy Alive!

Dalton State to Host Speaker on Teaching Multicultural Students

Dr. Sonia Neito, professor emerita of language, literacy, and culture at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College of Education, explores teaching students with diverse backgrounds.
