Special Challenges for Community College Chapters
How can the chapter experience be meaningful for community college students?
“Many students work and go to school full-time, leaving little time to work at gaining experience that would relate to the field of teaching. Aside from the reward of knowing that they've made a difference in the lives of the children that benefit from the annual events, such events give KDP members many opportunities to gain useful experience in planning, working together as a team, and organizational skills with minimal commitments of their time. Their participation in our KDP-sponsored events provides members with a vehicle in which they can fortify their portfolios from the media coverage that our events receive. Furthermore, members are recognized for their efforts and hard work in our monthly newsletter, thus giving them more ways to build on their ever-growing visual résumés.”

When students are on campus for such a short time, how can a chapter make sure they have effective leadership?
Team effort is what determines the success of any chapter. It takes committed officers and active members. After scheduling all of the chapter activities and events, decide upon committees to accomplish each task. Have each member chose an ad hoc committee on which to serve, or assign members to a committee. This way each member has an opportunity to lead and take an active role in the chapter.
