Chapter Models Manage Your Chapter
Chapter Models

In an effort to accommodate the many different needs and structures of KDP’s 600 chapters, provide excellent service and support, better define KDP Headquarter’s expectations for chapters and their expectations for Headquarters, and better track chapter progress and success in managing chapter operations, the Chapter Services team designed and developed new Chapter Models. There are three models:Initiation-Only, Standard, and Advanced. This section describes each model, as well as provides a chart that that compares the expectations of each model.

Chapters need to select their model and return the Chapter Model Agreement each biennium. Please contact KDP Headquarters if your chapter requires additional time to consider the options, have adequate discussion, and obtain the necessary signatures.

The requirements for chapters to remain in good standing are consistent with the Society’s Bylaws—chapters must have a yearly meeting, a yearly initiation, and submit the Annual Financial Report. The model expectations are used to better guide chapter operations and help chapters do what needs to be done to be successful; they are not be used to evaluate chapters for suspension or withdrawal, but are used to evaluate chapters for awards, provide opportunities to measure success, and offer incentives and recognition. Chapters do not currently need to be accomplishing all the expectations listed in order to choose a particular model.

Questions about the models can be addressed to mcs@kdp.org.

Deciding Which Model to Choose?
Steps to help your chapter make the right decision:
1. Instruct your officers to read through the descriptions and criteria for all chapter models.
2. Schedule a meeting with the Executive Committee to discuss the model options and decide which one would be best for your chapter. Remember to take into consideration:
  a. Number of current members
  b. Number of potential members based on the School of Education
  c. Current resources and support
  d. Goals and objectives of the chapter
3. Schedule a conference call with your Regional Chapter Coordinator for further clarification before presenting the information to the general membership.
4. Schedule a chapter meeting to present and discuss the models with the general membership. Take a vote to determine which model members would like to see the chapter implement.
5. Once a decision is reached, complete and sign the Chapter Model Agreement.
6. Fax or mail a copy of the Chapter Model Agreement to KDP Headquarters.
