Community Outreach

What Is Community Outreach?

Community Outreach is networking and collaborating with the broader education community both on and off campus. Community Outreach allows you and the chapter to build a stronger support system, network better with local education professionals, and promote Kappa Delta Pi.

Examples of Community Outreach

Networking and collaborating in your community, both on and off campus, can be done in a variety of ways. Some examples of Community Outreach are:
Co-sponsoring programs and Chalk Talk Café groups with local KDP Professional or Alumni Chapters
Co-sponsoring programs with local PTO’s/PTA’s
Inviting faculty, staff, and administrators to the chapter initiation
Initiating local practicing teachers and administrators into your chapter
Hosting professional mixers for education professionals and chapter members
Participating in Literacy Alive! to further the cause of literacy in your community
Taking part in the Simon Mall Project
Is your chapter already collaborating with people or groups in the community? If so, click here to submit your example of Community Outreach so it can be shared online!
Benefits of Community Outreach
The following are benefits of Community Outreach:
Increasing the number of volunteers
° If your chapter is thinking about doing a large-scale project but doesn’t have enough chapter members to complete the project, tap into the connections you have made in the community.
° Volunteers from the community could provide financial, physical, or promotional support for your events.
Mentoring
° Making connections in the community allows you to speak with practicing educators and learn helpful tips about the education field.
Networking
° Whether you are trying to find a job or just looking to make contacts in the area, collaborating with community organizations allows you to introduce yourself to community members and begin to form a network of practicing professionals.
