Constitution and Bylaws Manage Your Chapter
Constitution and Bylaws

As a way to maintain order and fairness, Kappa Delta Pi adheres to rules and regulations set forth in the Society Handbook, which contains the KDP International Constitution and Bylaws. Each chapter has its own local Chapter Bylaws, which should be updated every two years to remain current and reflect changes voted on during the Society’s Biennial Convocation. At the local level, an important aspect of the Chapter Bylaws is to set forth qualifications for inducting new members. Another consideration is to establish a set of guidelines for member participation so that the chapter is active and thriving; these are usually referred to as Post- Initiation Incentive Programs (PIIP) and should be added to the Chapter Bylaws.

Chapter Constitution and Bylaws Template

Depending on the model that the chapter has chosen to adhere to, customizing the Chapter’s Bylaws may be possible. However, if the chapter has chosen an initiation-only model, then the chapter is required to use the bylaws template provided without modification. When customizing the Chapter Bylaws, it is important to remember:

Chapter leaders should confer with their Regional Chapter Coordinator prior to presenting proposed changes to the general membership for voting.
Chapter members must be notified at least 14 days prior to voting on the proposed bylaws changes.
Changes passed by the membership should be typed electronically into the Chapter’s Bylaws, signed by the Chapter Counselor and President, and faxed to KDP Headquarters for official signature approval.
Once the Chapter Bylaws have been approved by KDP Headquarters, the chapter can begin implementation of the bylaws changes.
