Starting a Kappa Delta Pi chapter is a simple process that takes approximately 3–6 months to complete.  Building a good foundation is essential to the growth and ongoing success of your chapter and its future members.

Phase 1: Chapter Approval
The Chapter Approval phase provides your institution with information regarding Kappa Delta Pi and confirms the institution’s commitment to forming a chapter. Obtaining widespread support during this initial stage is crucial to establishing an active and successful KDP chapter. During this phase, the institution completes the application form, sends two (2) letters of support, and submits the one-time, non-refundable $500 new-chapter application fee.

Phase 2: Chapter Planning and Building
The Chapter Planning and Building phase is the most important phase because it establishes your chapter’s foundation. At this stage, the chapter counselor works closely with KDP’s Chapter Services Assistant to determine the Chapter Model appropriate for the new chapter and plan the charter installation event. During this time, the chapter counselor also works directly with the Regional Chapter Coordinator (RCC ) on chapter building and in training for chapter operations. For this training, the counselor completes a set of six bi-weekly phone calls with the RCC that provides information about recruiting members and officers, marketing, finances, governance, programming, and final instructions. The chartering chapter receives its Greek name and chapter number two (2) weeks prior to its installation ceremony.

Phase 3: Installation Ceremony

The Installation Ceremony completes the installation process and grants your university or college an official chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, International Honor Society in Education. During this phase of the process, the chapter inducts new members and a National Executive Council Member of Kappa Delta Pi presents the chapter with its official charter.

Phase 4:  Post-Installation
After the chapter’s installation, the Counselor and officers must provide follow-up information to Kappa Delta Pi Headquarters.  The chapter establishes chapter committees and officers must complete their officer training. To encourage growth of new chapters and participation at the national level, KDP gives special incentives to them during their first two (2) years. New chapters receive a travel stipend to attend their first KDP Biennial Convocation, and they may apply for a Rising Star Award, a recognition award given only to new chapters.
