| Why get involved? |
| Volunteering helps others and gives back to you. By serving in one or more of the diverse opportunities available through KDP, you contribute to your Society and add valuable experience to your professional portfolio. The ways to get involved in KDP abound and appeal to the diverse interests, expertise, and skills of members. Whether you seek positions that enhance your leadership skills, enable you to support chapters or the Society, allow you to mentor newer educators, or provide credits for academic reviews, we will help you find the right volunteer opportunity. |
Each volunteer opportunity has its own specific responsibilities and requirements. However, the following two criteria apply to all volunteer positions: |
| • | Active member status; and |
| • | Ability to commit the necessary time to fulfill the requirements of the specific volunteer activity. |

planning events, participating in various activities, and contributing
memorabilia or stories. Volunteers are needed at the chapter, regional, and national levels. The Educational Foundation supports the scholarships, grants,
and professional development programs of the Society. Members can
review any of more than 50 different scholarships and grants for
the Educational Foundation. Reviewers are given rubrics for scoring
and will have no more than 20 applications to evaluate. Classroom Teacher Grant Reviewers consider grant
proposals for classroom projects and supplies submitted by practicing
teacher members. Reviewers work in teams of two and are given instructions
prior to receiving proposals. Approximately one week following the
December 1 proposal deadline, reviewers receive electronic versions
of the proposals they are selected to review. Reviewers then have
one month to complete reviews using the scoring rubric provided.
(If you plan to submit a Classroom Teacher Grant proposal, please
do not volunteer for this position.) Up to 8 reviewers are
needed. |
Members may review manuscripts for one of the Society’s three
quarterly publications. To learn more about the journals and the
role of reviewer, please link to the journal of your choice. |
KDP’s Web site and online resources allow the Society to provide service to its members 24 hours a day, every day. To meet the changing needs of educators, the Web site committee provides, recommends, and reviews online resources and site functionality.
