| Committee Chairs Train for their New Roles The start of a new biennium signals the beginning of a new Executive Council, as well as national committee member assignments. Given the important role committees play in advancing the mission of KDP and the strategic goals of the Society, committee chairs recently spent a day at Headquarters to become oriented in their roles as committee chairs and serving The Society. Joining Executive Director Faye Snodgress for in-house training were Mark Sutter, Nominations Committee Chair, Mary Ann Deline, chair-elect of the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, Brian Rothenberger, Budget Committee Chair, Ryan Cassidy, Chair of the Membership Committee, Veronica Lopez Estrada, Communications Committee Chair, and Keon Ruiters, Co-Chair Professional Member Committee. The group reviewed KDP’s 2010–2012 Strategic Plan that will guide the Society’s initiatives and other activities over the next two years.Additionally, committee chairs learned more about the membership of KDP and were surprised to find out how diverse the membership is, with K–12 practitioners and undergraduate students representing the largest of the six member segments at 42 percent and 38 percent respectively. As KDP continues to grow its professional development for members, these percentages are anticipated to increase. The opportunities to expand professional communities in various facets is tremendous; therefore the committees seek input from members and volunteers who would like to serve alongside them. Members interested in serving on a standing committee or ad hoc task force should e-mail Headquarters here. Learn more about getting involved in KDP and how it can grow you professionally. >>> |

through the efforts of KDP staff members and volunteer leaders.
