I wasn’t able to complete the project for which I received the Classroom Teacher Grant. What do I do?
If you were unable to complete your classroom project, please contact the Educational Foundation at 800-284-2167 or foundation@kdp.org.

I didn’t complete my written evaluation or recipient survey by the deadline. What do I do?
We understand that the school-year can be hectic, and sometimes you aren’t able to meet the deadline. However, your evaluation and survey responses are very important to the Foundation. So if you were unable to complete these by the deadline, please contact the Foundation.

What happens if I do not complete my written evaluation or recipient survey at all?
Your evaluations and surveys are so important! They are used online and in print to promote the good works the Foundation does in universities and communities across the nation. Reminders are sent close to the deadline and additional reminders after the deadline. If you still are unable to complete the evaluations or surveys, then you unfortunately will not be eligible to receive future scholarships or Classroom Teacher Grants.

I am unable to complete the project for which I received the Classroom Teacher Grant, but I have another project in mind. Can I do that one?
Your initial Classroom Teacher grant application was reviewed and scored by a team of reviewers. If you are unable to complete that particular project, but have an alternate, please contact the Foundation. The new project must be reviewed and approved.

I donated to the KDP Educational Foundation, but I did not receive an acknowledgement letter.
We’re sorry! Please contact the Educational Foundation as soon as possible. We want to make sure your donation got processed as efficiently as possible.

I received a letter asking for a donation and I no longer am able to contribute to the Foundation.
Given today’s unsure economy, times can be hard—especially for our classroom teachers. If you feel you are unable to donate to the Foundation and would like to be removed permanently from our mailings, please contact us, so that we can accommodate your request.

I am unable to contribute financially to the foundation at this time. Are there other ways that I can help?
There are many ways to help the Foundation besides donating your money! You can volunteer to be a scholarship reviewer in your area of expertise. You also can volunteer to serve as a reviewer for the Classroom Teacher grants or Literacy Alive! grants. If you are interested in these unique volunteer opportunities, please contact the Foundation.

Does the Foundation award memberships to members who may be facing financial difficulties?
Yes! Complimentary memberships are sometimes donated back to the Foundation from generous donors. If you are experiencing a temporary hardship, but would like to stay an active member of Kappa Delta Pi, please contact the Foundation or Kelly Skinner, Director of Membership, at kellys@kdp.org. Complimentary memberships are limited.

What if I don’t want to be formally recognized for the gifts I make to the Foundation?
This past year, the Foundation has put in place a new checklist for donors. Donors giving more than $500 to the Foundation are asked to select which benefits, if any, they would like to receive. On that checklist, you may elect to not be formally recognized. For donations under $500, please contact the Foundation, and we will be happy to make your gift anonymous.

How do I set up a scholarship or grant in my name or the name of someone I admire?
Setting up a scholarship or grant fund is simple. You can pledge a total amount payable over ten years, depending on the amount you’d like to pledge. Or, you may it in one lump sum. You should discuss your decision with a member of the Foundation team.  We are happy to assist you in choosing the best option for your donation.

Is my donation tax deductible?
Absolutely! The KDP Educational Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit. All donations made to the Foundation—in any form—are 100% tax-deductible.

How is my donation used?
Every time you donate to the KDP Educational Foundation, you can elect to designate your contributions to any of the worthy projects we fund. If you do not choose a specific project or program, your donation will go to the area with the greatest need.

How much of my gift actually goes to help members?

Almost all donations directly help KDP members. For every dollar donated to KDP Educational Foundation, 96 percent, or 96 cents, is used to fund specific projects or programs, such as scholarships and grants. Only 4 percent (4 cents) of every dollar donated is used for operational expenses, which includes office supplies, salaries, or fund-raising efforts.

What is a planned gift?
Planned gifts are gifts such as bequests, which are donations left through a person’s will. Other examples of planned gifts are charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts. A planned gift usually requires the assistance of an estate planning professional like a CPA, attorney, or development officer to establish. For more information on planned gifts, contact foundation@kdp.org, or (800) 284-3167.

What is an endowment?
An endowment is an account established to provide long-term funding for a specific purpose or project by using only the earnings from the investments of the principal.
