LA Logo Literacy Alive! is a national initiative to encourage lifelong learning through literacy. This initiative encompasses various programs, from basic book drives to a semester-long partnership with a school, to strengthen reading skills and enrich lives. Each spring, the KDP Educational Foundation supports KDP chapter programs that bring literacy to life through special refunding grants.

LA History
KDP Literacy Alive!  began in 1993 as a partner with Reading Is Fundamental, Inc., and when it began, the program was called KDP Reading Is Fun. Over the years the program grew in the number of chapters who participated and in the number of individuals served. In 2007, Kappa Delta Pi elected to change the name to Literacy Alive! to better reflect the scope of many chapters’ programs and to eliminate confusion with the Reading Is Fundamental program. Literacy Alive! continues to support the literacy activities of Kappa Delta Pi chapters in their communities by offering grants to qualified chapters. KDP is hopeful that the Literacy Alive! program will continue to grow so that support can be provided for an increasing number of literacy programs.
LA Grant
Each spring, the KDP Educational Foundation supports KDP chapter programs that bring literacy to life through special refunding grants. The Literacy Alive! Refunding Grant program is held every spring semester, January through May. Grant proposals are accepted from September 1 through December 1 each year. The purpose of the Literacy Alive! Refunding Grant Program is to promote literacy among young people and support chapter programs that encourage a lifelong love of reading.
