Honor and Memorial Gifts
Giving for the benefit of others can be a wonderful way to reaffirm the values and priorities shared with our loved ones.

Honor gifts are an excellent way to say “thank you” to someone who has impacted your life, such as a teacher, student, administrator, or colleague. These gifts are a heartfelt way to recognize an individual’s contributions and accomplishments.

One way to remember family members and friends who have lived before us is through memorial gifts. A memorial gift is a distinguished way to memorialize the life of a departed individual.

Both honor gifts and memorial gifts are 100 percent tax deductible. Those who are recognized with an honor gift will receive an acknowledgement letter. For memorial gifts, an acknowledgement letter will be sent to a surviving family member.

Bequests
Bequests include cash, securities, or other marketable property designated in a will and are exempt from federal estate taxes. A specific bequest leaves certain property, or a percentage of the estate, to the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation. Click here to request additional information.

Life Insurance
Life insurance gifts may be made by naming the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation as owner or beneficiary. After death, the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation receives the benefits. When ownership of the insurance is gifted to the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation, an immediate federal income tax deduction is allowed, which approximates the cash surrender value of the policy. Future premiums paid by the donor are tax deductible. Click here to request additional information.

Appreciated Property
An alternative to a cash gift is a donation of appreciated securities, such as stocks and bonds or real estate. Appreciated property held long-term by a donor can result in a current federal income tax deduction for its fair market value. Taxes on the appreciated value may be avoided. Call Kappa Delta Pi Headquarters at 800-284-3167 or Click here to request additional information.

Gifts in Trusts
Trusts are used to distribute property during life and after death. In a Living Trust, you may leave all or a portion of your estate to the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation. Another option is the Charitable Remainder Trust, where the donor, or a designee, receives a percentage of the value of the trust property annually for an agreed-upon number of years, or for life, after which the gifted property becomes wholly owned by the Kappa Delta Pi Educational Foundation. A Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust is similar, with the donor receiving a guaranteed dollar amount each year, rather than a variable amount. Trusts may result in federal income tax and/or estate tax benefits. Click here to request additional information.

Deferred Giving and Estate Planning
Deferred giving is a form of estate planning that directs assets, while the donor is alive, toward use after death. Planning can reduce the loss of the estate's value. See your attorney for details about naming Kappa Delta Pi in your estate planning. Click here to request additional information.
