Kieran Egan is a distinctive curriculum theorist who draws on philosophy and psychology in his study of children’s learning development and the role of imagination in learning and curriculum. A faculty member at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, Canada, his areas of interest include educational and curriculum theory, conceptions of development in education, and the way cognitive tools shape learning and understanding.

Egan is widely published and highly regarded throughout the world. His books include Teaching Literacy: Engaging the Imagination of Young Readers and Writers (2006); An Imaginative Approach to Teaching (2005); and The Educated Mind: How Cognitive Tools Shape Our Understanding (1997).
