I TEACH Conference—DePaul University, Chicago, October 16
These regional conferences have really taken off in the last year. Attendance has more than doubled at many of the day-long symposiums, and the workshops have grown in number and variety.
Originally designed for KDP students and beginning teachers, recent I TEACH conferences have attracted teachers beyond their third year and many non-KDP educators. In fact, DePaul’s October 16th conference drew people from seven states representing 30 KDP chapters. Nonmembers outnumbered the KDP members, with 74 and 72 attendees, respectively. According to the conference’s survey results, most participants thought the conference was well worth attending. They cited pertinent workshop topics, keynote speaker Debbie Perryman, and networking opportunities as the most meaningful aspects of the event.

For chapters planning to host an I TEACH conference, Headquarters’ coordinator Sharon Bergmann offers this observation: “It is important to have a supportive chapter and willing volunteers because hosting a conference requires a lot of team work. Chapters should keep in mind that these conferences are a wonderful opportunity to showcase their universities."
