News about KDP people

Greetings Kadelpians:

High ideals and dedication to purpose have been at the foundation of Kappa Delta Pi since it was founded in 1911, and they remain true today. An evolving Society cannot stand on words alone, however. Dedication requires action. That is why KDP promises its members that it will connect the best and brightest ideas with the best and brightest educators. I am pleased to report how KDP is delivering on that promise:

No Child Left Behind Town-Hall Meetings
A current example of putting this promise into action is the Society’s sponsorship of the national No Child Left Behind Town-Hall Meetings. These open forums heighten public awareness about No Child Left Behind and present KDP as an advocate for educators and what’s right for students. Visit KDP’s NCLB page, www.kdp.org/teacherresources/nochildleftbehind.php, to read about the recent forums in Chicago, Boston, Berkeley, and San Francisco and to learn the dates of upcoming forums.
  Online Forums
Connect with other educators online. This new feature on the updated KDP Web site offers you the perfect way to ask questions, get ideas, and find or offer support to others in, or preparing for, the profession. Take advantage of this easy connection!
  Counselor Academies
Counselor Academies, such as the recent ones in Oklahoma and South Carolina, offer excellent opportunities to connect with other KDP leaders. All chapter counselors, especially those new to the role, are challenged to participate in a Counselor Academy by June 2005. KDP believes so strongly in the benefits of the Academy that it will reimburse counselors up to $150 for travel expenses and provide compensation for an overnight hotel stay and meals. Look for an Academy near you, www.kdp.org/conference/upcomingcounaca.php, where you can share with and learn from fellow counselors.
  I TEACH Conferences
These one-day regional conferences geared to students and new teachers just keep getting better. More than 150 people took part in the I TEACH conference at DePaul University in Chicago. Read more about DePaul.
  Educational Foundation
KDP’s Educational Foundation lets you connect, as a giver or a receiver, with other educators. Make a donation, give a gift, or apply for a scholarship. Learn more about these opportunities.

There are many ways to connect with Kappa Delta Pi . . . read the journals, visit the Web site, participate in a service project, attend an I TEACH conference, or contribute to the Foundation. I urge you to take advantage of all the resources that Kappa Delta Pi offers.

“KDP isn’t a nice extra. It is vital to the teacher education program at Columbia College.”

As noted recently on the home page of KDP Online, esteemed educator, Laureate, and 67-year member, Deborah Cannon Partridge Wolfe passed away in September. Though her legacy of dedication and loyalty to students, education, and Kappa Delta Pi will remain and her presence missed by many, her death marks the last living connection to the Society’s founder, William Chandler Bagley. He inducted her in 1937.

To recognize Deborah’s achievements and commitment to education, KDP is collecting donations in her memory. All donations will go to the Deborah Partridge Wolfe scholarship to further her quest of supporting multicultural education. Your gift will be acknowledged in a letter to Deborah’s family. Donate online www.kdp.org/gift/gift.php or e-mail KDP’s Director of Development, Cara Lathrop at cara@kdp.org for more information.

Meet Willi Wilson, the voice of Kappa Delta Pi—so to speak. Willi is most likely the first voice you hear when you call Headquarters and the first face to greet you when you visit. However, greeting people is far from all that Willi does in a week’s time and throughout her five years with KDP. From processing orders to researching projects for the Executive Director, the all-other-duties-as-assigned portion of her job description covers a wide range. In addition to these assignments—but not required—Willi is known for her excellent and frequently brought-in baked goods.
