KDP rounds them up and heads them out to you—recommended resources, that is. KDP does the research and directs you to Web sites and information appropriate to your career stage. Find them here and in your Resources newsletter, delivered to your Inbox each quarter.

Do you have a resource to recommend? Simply e-mail NewsEditor@kdp.org with your recommendation, along with a brief description and the professional level that it would benefit most (e.g., professors, Grad students, elementary educators).

Creating lesson plans can be both interesting and time consuming. Experienced educators assure new teachers that it is okay to borrow lessons from other educators. Teachers.net is a good resource for such borrowing. Teachers can search http://teachers.net/lessons by subject or topic and can submit their own lesson plans.

Professional
The United Nations affiliated site, cyberschoolbus, provides links to: UN student conferences, information about the Millennium Development Goals, Child Soldiers, and countries around the world. Educators can find curriculum materials on peace education, cities of the world, human rights and more, along with quizzes and games to foster interest in learning about the UN and its work with refugees and disaster situations. Students may enjoy visiting the Gallery of art created by students from all over the world.

Research-Focused

The non-profit institute All Kind of Minds, dedicated to helping students who struggle with learning to improve measurably, offers resources for those who have research interests in learning differences, working with struggling students, or training those who do. Articles, case studies, and an online glossary are just a few features worth viewing through www.allkindsofminds.org/learning-library.

Graduate
Having a great mentor can make all the difference as you make the transition to graduate school. If you are attending a large university with a diverse student population, you can learn how to create the type of mentoring experience you want by reading this article from the University of Michigan’s Web site. If you are just getting started as a new mentor to graduate students, take a look at “How to mentor graduate students: A guide for faculty in a diverse university” to find out about key characteristics of good mentoring.

General Interest

The Intel Visual Ranking Tool bumps the somewhat simple task of making lists into higher-level thinking for students when they identify and refine criteria as they assign order or ranking to a list. This tool supports activities where students need to organize ideas, prioritize, debate differences, evaluate and reach consensus.
