Chapter Awards—Application submissions are closed for 2011 Rising Star Award for New Chapters |
| When institutions charter a new chapter, they have
the challenge and excitement of building an exceptional chapter from
the get-go. The Rising Star award recognizes this accomplishment by honoring KDP’s
newest chapters for outstanding chapter operations in their first biennium. |
| Award Description |
| Kappa Delta Pi welcomes several new chapters each year. Our newest chapters spread the enthusiasm of KDP, promote professionalism, and offer support to educators in all stages of their careers. This award is designed for new chapters who demonstrate outstanding management and programming in the first biennium following installation. The first Rising Star Awards will be presented at Convocation 2011 in Indianapolis, Indiana, to chapters chartered in the 2009–2011 biennium. |
| Award Application |
| Chapters must submit an application and supporting materials by May 15, 2011, highlighting how they met expectations of their chosen model since installation, as well as their accomplishments in membership growth, leadership, programming, and chapter communications. |
| Award Focus Areas |
| Membership Growth Membership growth includes, but not limited to: |
| • | General membership meetings |
| • | Comprehensive programs utilizing resources from the chapter and the Society to communicate benefits and services to chapter membership |
| • | A plan to recruit and engage all eligible SOE students, faculty (undergrad & grad), community education professionals, and alumni |
| • | A plan to promote annual renewal of membership and keep members connected with KDP after graduation |
| Leadership Leadership includes, but not limited to |
| • | Officer participation in leadership training (KDP Webinars, Student Government Association Leadership Training, State Teacher Association Training, etc.) |
| • | Leadership development of general membership |
| • | Transitional training of officers |
| • | Functioning committees |
| • | Networking opportunities |
| Programming Programming includes, but not limited to |
| • | Service projects performed on campus or in the local/regional community |
| • | Professional development programming |
| • | Fundraising |
| Chapter Communication Chapter communication includes, but not limited to tools/resources used to reach all members and connect to the community |
| • | Newsletters |
| • | Publications (fact sheets, brochures, bulletins, posters, direct mail, etc.) |
| • | Visual Feature (for example- PowerPoint presentations, television/video, radio) |
| • | Printed Feature (press release, print article, etc.) |
| • | Internet (including websites, podcasts, group sites such as BlackBoard and Facebook) |
| To be eligible, chapters must meet the following qualifications: |
| • | Hold at least one initiation per year and submitted paperwork within four weeks of ceremony; |
| • | Complete and submit all KDP reports on time; |
| • | Provide documentation showing one year of programs – July 1 through June 30; and |
| Portfolio Criteria |
| The portfolio must NOT exceed the size of a one-inch binder. Keep in mind that highlighting the substance of programming is more important than displaying scrap booking style. Narratives for the focus areas must not exceed more than two pages with one-inch margins and 11pt font. Include goals, objectives, and outcomes for each narrative. Include pictures with captions to document activities. Use the pictures to support the written descriptions. Captions must be concise, yet detailed enough to explain the essence of the picture. |
