Theme: Reading at the County Fair

• Before the event, members took treat sacks to second-grade students. Items included:
  • a Hershey candy bar;
  • a pencil with “Reading is Fun” imprinted on it;
  • an animal bookmark;
  • a note for parents informing them of the RIF event and inviting them to participate; and
  • a schedule of events for the county fair.
• Chapter members set up two different game events: a washer pitching contest and a fishing pond.
• The Agricultural Department at the university brought a rabbit, a goat, and a cow for a petting zoo.
• The children rotated through the activities and then moved into reading time.
• The Mayor of Huntsville, the Superintendent of the Huntsville Independent School District, three parents, three teachers, the principal, and chapter members read to the children.
• Each child received three books to take home.
