Theme: Reading Carnival

• A reading carnival was held for children in the community. Flyers were distributed at the local community center, the library, and at schools. Students recorded how many minutes of their free time they spent reading the week before the carnival. Children earned tickets based on how many minutes they had read and their age.
• Stations included:
  • a cookie walk where students answered questions about books they had read;
  • “Twister with a Twist” with questions related to reading;
  • a pencil tree;
  • an estimation jar;
  • a fishing pond, sponsored by the Student Council for Exceptional Children;
  • a beach ball reading game;
  • a lollipop tree related to the book The Very Hungry Caterpillar, sponsored by the student organization LEAD;
  • a reading corner;
  • bookmark making; and
  • book making.
• Each child who recorded the minutes he or she had read received a free book.
