Chapter: 522

Institution: The University of Portland, OR
Theme: Reading Is Fun Week Carnival

The focus of the carnival was children from underprivileged communities. Students from both private and public schools were invited, and children from infancy to middle school attended.
Twelve different booths were set up where children could do crafts, learn stories from a professional puppeteer, listen to stories in a story area, play games for prizes, meet an author, and crochet.
Local chapters of the IRA, SMART, and PTO had booths with information available for parents.
Passports were given to the children when they arrived. When the passport was filled up (they received a stamp at each booth), they could turn it in for a new book to keep.
