• The reading conference could be used to obtain Act 48 credit.
• A Readers’ Theater presentation featured student readers from area schools. The students who participated in the Readers’ Theater were presented with an autographed copy of Coming On Home Soon by Jacqueline Woodson and illustrated by E. B. Lewis.
• Following the Readers’ Theater presentation, Mr. Lewis discussed being an illustrator and how illustrations are created.
• Conference participants could attend one of two breakout sessions:
  • Helping children write books using their neighborhood and local history as background information
  • Enhancing literacy experiences for boys
• Mr. Lewis visited a local school, read to students, and talked with them about his work. Books were donated to the school, and the children had the opportunity to get their books autographed by Mr. Lewis.
