  Tickets and Prizes
To reward students that have excellent conduct, I give them a ticket. Once they have five tickets, they are able to select a prize from the reward box. Rewards range from stuffed animals, to bubbles, to puzzles. I simply go to the dollar store and buy several different types of items.

Classroom Coupons & Colored Grids
As a fourth-grade teacher, I printed my own classroom coupons. These were given to students who followed the rules of the class, gave thoughtful answers, or asked intriguing questions. At the end of the grading period, I would hold an auction for prizes such as unused toys from home, never-used gifts, and free items from stores and fast-food restaurants. Earning coupons for positive behaviors and choosing a reward provided an incentive to students and helped them maintain focus during discussions. As a personal benefit, the reward chest provided another home for the “stuff” crowding my house.

Now that I am a media specialist, I use a grid sheet that is distributed to each third- and fourth-grade student. As I develop my lesson, students color in a square on their sheets for each correct answer, insightful question, or any personal constructive contribution to the day’s lesson. At the end of the year, the student with the most colored squares gets a prize, usually a small, stuffed toy.
