Campus Job Fairs
Colleges and universities often sponsor job fairs to acquaint student teachers with area districts that are hiring. Most candidates mingle at tables where recruitment information—data about schools, salaries, open positions, and subject area specialties—is available.

As a teacher education student, you should attend at least one college job fair before you begin to apply for open teaching positions. The experience will help you prepare for the interview and application process.
At college job fairs, recruiters may conduct 10- to 15-minute screening interviews. They also collect résumés to take back to their districts. Depending on the needs of the school or district and their hiring process, they may also distribute applications or hand out cards with online application information.

District Job Fairs
Districts that need teachers often plan their own job fairs, which are generally all-day fairs held in a school’s gymnasium. At these fairs, principals and teachers represent the individual schools in the district. Make the most of these job fairs by signing up for an interview with the district’s central administrators and meeting the individual administrators.  Every conversation you have is an informal interview, so be prepared to be on stage all day!
  Here are a few tips to keep in mind for district-sponsored fairs:

Do not be surprised by a group interview. There may be several people interviewing you at once or there may be a team of interviewers talking with 3 or 4 candidates at once.  Be alert and attentive when interviewers ask a question of someone else; look interested, listen, and consider your own response to that question as well.

Carry extra résumés. If you know that you want to leave résumés with certain schools at this fair, attach a cover letter with each résumé.

If you see 500 people in the parking lot, don’t be rattled. Go prepared, be confident, and you will stand out! Remember that as a KDP member you have already been recognized as one of the best and brightest in education today.

Look for postings at the Web site of California Association for Employment in Education (CAEE). This organization is a consortium of university career services personnel and school district administrators who provide the link between institutions that prepare teacher candidates and districts and schools that employ them.
