I hope your semester is off to a great start, and that your chapter has had time to plan for a successful year. Fall is the perfect time to reconnect with members on campus, but it also offers a chance to reach out to your alumni! Many campuses have big homecoming events in the fall, so get involved as a chapter. Invite your alumni back for chapter events, host a homecoming social, or make a float in a homecoming parade and invite alumni to participate. Social media is a great way to stay in touch with alumni, so make sure your presence is up to date.
Alpha Chi Chapter
Chapter Highlight
The Alpha Chi Chapter at James Madison University started off this year with “First Day of School” photos, providing an opportunity for students to take a fun “framed” picture. Additional events this year include “A Symposium for Educators” (reaching students in poverty), Educator’s Conference (an annual PD event), multiple fundraisers, and several social events to help connect members on campus. The Alpha Chi Chapter has won several awards in previous years for their membership and professional development programs.

Chapter Planning Tool
Chapter Planning Tool
Have you submitted the Chapter Planning Tool (CPT) yet? This beneficial tool helps chapter leaders as they set goals for the year. It also is a great way to communicate your chapter plans (or challenges) to your Regional Chapter Coordinator, so Headquarters can reach out to you with support for your plans. The deadline for submitting the CPT is October 1.
Classroom Teacher Grants
Classroom Teacher Grants
Know of a teacher who could use $150 for their classroom supplies or a specific program—maybe someone who is in their first year(s) of teaching? Each fall, KDP awards 50 grants of $150 each that are available to practicing PreK–12 educators. Remind your alumni to apply by October 31, 2016.
Member Benefit – Discount Codes
KDP gives every member coupons to the store during his or her birthday month as well as other times throughout the year, so you can purchase your much-needed KDP swag! Check out your personal profile in MyKDP to make sure we have your correct birthday and then keep a lookout in your inbox for this great added benefit. Be sure to tell your members that this coupon will be headed their way!
KDP Counselor “Secrets to Success” Webinars
This webinar series is presented by counselors—for counselors. The Counselor role is a unique position on each campus, and few opportunities present themselves to interact with your counselor colleagues outside of Convo or Regional Workshops. Join us on October 20 at 2:00 p.m. EDT to hear veteran counselors share what they do to be successful. Rea Kirk (2016 Regional Counselor Award winner), John Nkemji (counselor for 35 years), and Peggy Marciniec will share their tips. Register now!
Fall Mailing
The fall mailing is on its way to chapters! This packet of information contains important information regarding rebates, recruitment goals, and other Society updates. Visit the KDP website to see an electronic copy of the mailing.
