| Benefits of Chapter Involvement |
| The benefits of being a Kappa Delta
Pi member extend much further than just a line on your résumé. Are
you thinking about improving your leadership skills? Or maybe you are
very interested in a teaching position at a local school district,
but you do not have any connections for an interview. Being involved
in a KDP chapter can help you with both of these areas, and many more! Being involved in your KDP Chapter can help provide you: • Chapter Officer and Committee Chair leadership opportunities • Networking opportunities with professionals • Chances to be mentored by professionals and be a mentor for younger up-and-coming professionals • Conversation starters with your professors because they might be members too! |
| How to Get Involved in Chapter Activities |
| To receive the most out of your KDP membership, you need to get involved in your chapter! So, you just were initiated; what is next? If your chapter offers involvement opportunities, such as programs or meetings, take advantage of them! Clear your schedule and jump right in on the action. If your chapter does not have any upcoming programs or meetings, e-mail a chapter officer. Chapter officers may want to know what you are interested in so they can offer a better array of chapter programs. To get involved with your chapter, you have to take the plunge! |
| How to Get Involved on a Committee |
| In addition to programs and chapter meetings, you also can get involved with your chapter via a committee. Though each chapter is different, standing committees typically focus on major chapter operations such as Programming, Fund-raising, Membership, and Awards. Ad hoc committees are formed to plan and roll out a specific activity or event. You can learn what committees your chapter has by contacting your chapter President or Counselor. Join the one that interests you most! |
| Getting Your Voice Heard |
| Membership is so much
more than passive involvement. You were recruited to your chapter because
you have an above-average GPA, exemplify worthy ideals, and have leadership
skills. So don’t be silent! Voice your opinions and make a positive
impact on the chapter! During meetings, when chapter officers ask for
your ideas about upcoming programs or chapter concerns, they really
want your input! Speak up and make a difference in your chapter. Worried that your opinion is not being heard? Then follow these steps: • Speak up during committee and chapter meetings. • Speak privately with chapter officers or the counselor about your concerns. • Speak with other chapter members about your concerns to gain their support. • Run for a chapter officer position. |
| Spreading the Word |
| Now that you are a chapter member, it is your job to help recruit new members. But how? The best way to recruit new members is to tell your friends all about what you are doing in the chapter. Did you particularly enjoy a KDP program? Tell your roommate! Were you really happy with the way a chapter meeting ended? Tell your classmates! KDP should not be a secret on your campus. Spread the word! |
| Running for Office |
| So you are an initiated member of KDP, have been participating on various committees, and have been telling all of your friends about KDP. Where do you go from here? Your next step is to run for an officer position. If you are particular interested in a committee you’ve been involved in, run for the officer position that heads up that committee or whatever position interests you! Before you run for office, make sure you speak with the current officer about the position. You can find specific officer descriptions and manuals in the Chapter Leadership section of the Web site. Speaking with the current officer will help you get a real-world picture of what the position entails and the responsibilities that go with it. Once you have selected the position you want to run for, declare your intent and start your campaign! |
