About UsThe Online Global Forum on Education for Sustainable Development for Teacher Educators is specifically designed to meet the need for continuing professional development of teacher educators who work with pre-service and in-service teachers of primary and secondary schools. This online forum brings together voices from the Global South with voices from the Global North to discuss current educational topics and major threats to global sustainability as well as education’s role in achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This online forum will focus on educational themes (e.g., systems thinking, pedagogy, and assessment) and teaching about current threats to global sustainability (e.g., climate change and social equity). New thematic units will be posted to the forum 10 times per year. Each thematic unit will include online videos, activities, and online discussions as well as live discussions with ESD experts. Videos, activities, and discussions will include practical topics, such as how to integrate sustainability into existing teacher-preparation courses, and good practices.
This global forum is an open access platform. All videos, materials, and resources are available at no cost to the participant.
The ESD Innovate: International Learning Collaborative will make quality ESD content available to educators in a pedagogically sound, low-cost and open platform.
We are currently developing comprehensive and innovative ESD activities, which combine offline and online learning tasks with a vibrant networking platform for students and their lecturers. Our partners from three continents will use their combined experiences to explore the innovative use of the content, the E-Learning pedagogy, and technology.
In line with ESD principles of teaching and learning, this collaboration will explore and experience a pedagogical shift of teaching and learning from transmissive and authoritative approaches towards participatory and transformative learning. The online platform will make practical use of combined experiences and cutting-edge pedagogy to encourage reflexive thought, allow students to make connections, use learning as inquiry, and enable empowerment.
