This short course explores the role of asset-based thinking, the myth of a work/life balance, and teacher job satisfaction. Focus is on actions to connect your professional happiness with your students’ success.

Specifically,

Instructors understand that work-based opportunities create a strong sense of ownership in their students and inspire meaningful engagement with their learning objectives and professional growth plans.” (National Board Career and Technical Education Standards, 2nd ed., p. 24)
Requirements
  • Any K–12 teacher can take this course (no prior knowledge or actual classroom experience is required).
  • Access to Internet on mobile device or computer. No purchase of additional materials needed.
  • Review and engagement of all content material included in the course, in the sequence presented.
  • Successful completion of final project.
Content and format
  • 4 research-based modules, each taking roughly 20–30 minutes to complete

    DEL: Wellness as Development
  • Associated activities to test your knowledge of each module
  • Final project: Successful completion of this course includes writing a personal growth plan and reflection based on supplied prompts. This final project builds on four activities in the course that lead to an action plan for investing time in your own personal and professional wellness.
About the authors

Dr. Catherine Pangan is an Associate Professor and Angela Lupton is Assistant Dean and Instructor at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Both former elementary teachers, they are frequent authors, presenters, and consultants on Asset-Based Thinking and healthy life balance in education.
