On December 1, 1994, Dr. Misty Hathcock joined Kappa Delta Pi, beginning a 30-year journey of dedication to our mission to advance education for all. From her roots as Chapter Counselor of the award-winning Omicron Pi Chapter at UNC Charlotte to her recent service as Board President and now Immediate Past President, Misty has been a steady, inspiring force within our community.
A Clinical Professor Emerita at UNC Charlotte’s Cato College of Education, Misty is known for her servant leadership, unwavering commitment to educators, and her deep belief that teaching is “heart work.” Her impact spans generations of students, teachers, and KDP members who have been encouraged, mentored, and uplifted by her passion and presence.
Over the past three decades, Misty and her chapter have earned numerous national awards for excellence. She is also a proud member of the esteemed Eleanor Roosevelt Chapter of KDP, an honor reserved for those who exemplify the highest standards of service and leadership.
Misty’s most recent legacy unfolded during her five years on the KDP Board of Directors, including a remarkable extended tenure as Board President. In an extraordinary and selfless act of leadership, Misty willingly served an additional year as President to provide stability and continuity during a critical time of organizational transition. This thoughtful decision allowed KDP to stay focused and strategic in its efforts to reimagine our future.
Under her guidance, 2024 marked a defining moment for KDP. We adopted a bold, member-centric approach that reshaped how we serve, engage, and grow our educator community. Misty’s influence is evident throughout this transformation, and the impact of her vision continues to unfold.
She also played a key role in the success of the 2023 Convocation in St. Louis and was a champion for the development of KDP’s new National Office, a space that reflects our values and inspires our work ahead.
Misty has always led with her time, talent, treasure, and—most of all—her heart. As she transitions into her role as Immediate Past President, we celebrate the indelible mark she has left on KDP and the broader education community.
Misty, your leadership has been more than a role. It has been a gift. Thank you for 30 years of extraordinary service, wisdom, and passion for education. We are stronger, more connected, and more inspired because of you.
