For Chris Beaman, KDP has been far more than a professional organization. It has shaped his purpose, his leadership, and his belief in the transformative power of education.
“KDP has been my professional home and personal compass. It’s where I found my voice as a student leader, honed my skills as a professional association staff leader, and has become a place for my investment to do important and good work. It’s more than an organization and association—it’s a movement that honors teachers and uplifts their futures.”
Chris’s journey with KDP began as an undergraduate student member and chapter leader, and over time, it has become woven into every stage of his professional life. Through his experiences, one truth has remained constant: when we invest in teachers, we invest in humanity.
Growth and Purpose
Like many educators and leaders, Chris’s path wasn’t one he expected.
“I never expected to become an association leader and/or generalist within my field. I was taught that you’re good at one thing and you need to find that and grow into it. I never dreamed of working as an event coordinator, fundraiser, governance strategist, communications professional, etc.—all within an education-focused career.”
Yet each experience taught him that leadership isn’t about titles, it’s about purpose.
“I’ve learned that titles evolve, but purpose stays constant. The most unexpected lesson, though? That storytelling and spreadsheets both have a place in leadership—and sometimes, they’re equally powerful.”
This balance between creativity and structure, inspiration and strategy has defined Chris’s work and how he leads within the education community.
When asked what he wishes for teachers today, Chris’s response is both heartfelt and urgent.
“I wish teachers felt the same level of recognition, reverence, and respect that society reserves for other professions. I wish they had the time, tools, and trust to teach with creativity and care. And I wish they were surrounded by communities—like KDP—that celebrate their impact and invest in their growth—not just professionally, but personally.”
That belief in affirmation and presence traces back to a teacher who forever changed his perspective.
“My favorite teacher didn’t just teach the content and subject matter—she taught confidence. I’ll never forget how she paused mid-lesson to say, ‘You belong here.’ That moment shifted something in me. Her belief became a blueprint for how I lead: with affirmation, intentionality, and the power of presence.”
For Chris, it’s a reminder that the smallest gestures can leave the deepest legacy.
Investing in Teachers is Investing in Humanity
Chris’s connection to KDP spans every chapter of his life—as a student, a leader, a staff member, and now, a board member.
“My personal life and career have been shaped by KDP teachers—first as an undergraduate student, then as a KDP chapter leader and staff member. Serving on the Board is a natural extension of my lifelong commitment to supporting future and new teachers.”
Through his expertise in strategic communications, member engagement, and governance, Chris continues to help KDP amplify teacher voices and evolve with purpose and impact.
“I’m inspired by the resilience and brilliance of teachers, and I want to ensure they feel seen, supported, and equipped to thrive.”
For Chris, leadership is not just about advancing a profession—it’s about nurturing a movement. A movement grounded in gratitude, humanity, and hope.
“KDP has taught me that when we invest in teachers, we invest in humanity. That truth continues to guide me—in every decision, every story, and every spreadsheet.”
