Hi~ I'm Gina Stevens. I am a middle school Multilingual Learner teacher in McHenry county. This is my sixth year in the position, and sixth year teaching overall. I love my role. Currently, I am pursuing a Master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language to strengthen my already existing ML skills! I work with students who speak many different languages, and a few students from different countries around the world. Culture and diversity are incredibly important to me.

    Welcome and well met!

I'm Paulla Fetzek and I just graduated with my Masters in Higher Ed (specialization in Adult Ed) this past September.  I've always wanted to teach, but God had other plans as I've never been a teacher full-time.  For the past 22 years I've worked with GE Lighting.  I'm currently a Sr. Operaations Specialist. I've been trying since last June to obtain an adjunct position (combining my knowledge/experience of Project Managment and Operations Mangement with my love of teaching) but have had no success thus far.  Part of my issue I know is that I have no in classroom experience.  I have been an Independent Tutor with WyzAnt since 2013, but this has been incredibly sparce since Covid hit in 2020.

    Look forward to this group!

Hello! My name is Steven Sowards, and I'm currently a junior at Governor State University in Chicago's southland, working toward my BA in Elementary Education. My specialization is Social Studies, and I plan to earn endorsements in middle school ELA and Social Studies as well.

I spent over 15 years in the hospitality industry, working with well-known companies like Marriott, United Airlines, and Disney. While I enjoyed my time in that field, I realized I wanted to pursue a career that would allow me to make a lasting impact, which led me to education.

Currently, I tutor online and work as a substitute teacher for Chicago Public Schools. I find subbing incredibly rewarding, but I'm even more excited about finishing my program and having a classroom of my own. I look forward to connecting with all of you and sharing this educational journey!

    Hi!

My name is Kitana, I'm 28, I'm a full-time student at Western Illinois University, and I am currently a sub and paraprofessional for one of my local school districts. I'm pursuing a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education and often find myself driven by pure passion and love for the children that I am blessed to work with. In my free time, I enjoy kayaking, hiking, and going out with friends to socialize. I have two boys, ages 5 and 8, who keep me busy and on my toes, and a wonderful husband who supports and motivates me daily. I decided to join KDP because I am interested in expanding my social network and I would love to belong to a community of educators who are as passionate and motivated as I am.

I am in my 4th year of teaching, my second year teaching at the high school level. Last school year, I taught high school Biology & Zoology. I have a bachelor's degree in Biology from Chicago State University & a Master's Degree in Teaching Science Education at the secondary level from Western Governors University, with endorsements in middle school science & high school Biology. I also recently completed my ESL endorsement with the JBV Graduate School of Teacher Leadership. I am currently working towards an online MPS in Wildlife Ecology & Management Degree with Unity Environmental University. I have prior work experience as an independent artist, classroom volunteer, ChildLife volunteer at a children's hospital, substitute teacher, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Special Education Classroom Assistant (SECA), and middle school science teacher. Earlier this school year, I was accepted into the 2025 Fields of STEM  Educators Cohort with the NSTA.  I have a little research experience in a lab from when I was working on my undergraduate degree in Biology. I have always loved science, especially Biology. I would eventually like to earn a PhD in Conservation Biology, teach at the University level, & work as a conservation biologist. When I have the time, I love spending quiet time in nature. I love spending quiet time by myself, but I also enjoy spending time with my sweet cat Nini (see pictures below) & my family. I love reading, playing games, & walking in nature (when I have time).

Good afternoon, everyone. I hope this message finds you well.

I've seen these messages circulating for several months now and wasn't quite sure how to respond-until now.

My name is Renita L. Simmons, and I am an Alternative Education Teacher serving two schools in the northern suburbs. I work with a unique and often misunderstood group of students-those whom some may consider "difficult" but who, in reality, often just need patience, understanding, and a bit of TLC.

Regardless of the challenges they face-whether at home, in their communities, or within themselves-I am committed to helping these students stay on track, earn their credits, and move towards graduation. My role is not just about academics; it's about connection, encouragement, and never giving up on any student.

In addition to my teaching role, I'm currently finishing my Ph.D. in Educational Leadership. This year has been especially exciting, as students at both of my schools launched Black Student Union (BSU) chapters for the first time. I serve as the Advisor at the school where I start my day each morning and assist with BSU at the school I end my day at.

Right now, I'm definitely burning the candle at both ends-but I'm proud of the impact being made. And like many of us, I'm also very much looking forward to summer break!

Hi friends! My name is Haley Battle, and I'm so excited to be part of this community! I've worked as a paraprofessional for the past two years, supporting students with diverse learning needs. I recently accepted a new role as an ABA Behavior Therapist at Action Behavior Centers, where I provide one-on-one support to children with autism.
