International Reading Association Audience: All The IRA supports those who help others learn to read. Resources include research, professional development, advocacy, and conferences. Find information on special interest groups, awards and grants, careers in literacy, and lesson plans. Literacy Center.net Grade levels: Early Childhood. Part of The Early Childhood Education Network, The Literacy Center offers safe learning activities for young children. It follows a modified Montessori approach to teaching reading with the assumption that the online lessons will be supported by appropriate offline instruction. Lessons are available in four languages. The Literacy Project Grade levels: K–12, Higher Ed, Adult Learning This site is “a resource for teachers, literacy organizations and anyone interested in reading and education, created in collaboration with LitCam, Google, and UNESCO’s Institute for Lifelong Learning.” It is somewhat global in nature, serving as a “clearinghouse” providing a wide range of resource links for educators of various levels. Main categories include books, scholarly articles, literacy initiatives around the world, and blogs on literacy. One of the site’s goals is to promote collaborative work in literacy. National Institute for Literacy Grade levels: All Educators will find online course, articles, research documents, and approaches to teaching literacy for students of all ages—newborns to adults. The Literacy Institute, in consultation with the U.S. Departments of Education, Labor, and Health and Human Services, serves as a national resource on current, comprehensive literacy research, practice and policy. Reading Online Grade Level: All This Web site, provided by the International Reading Association, offers hundreds of articles on a range of topics in reading education. To find articles that match your particular interests, simply search or browse the author, title, and subject indexes. Reading Rockets Grade Level: Pre-K–3 Reading Rockets is a site dedicated to young readers. The site is divided into sections for teachers, parents, principals, librarians, and other professionals.
