Member Spotlight: Carolyn Case

We’re thrilled to feature Carolyn Case, President of KDP’s Kappa Tau Chapter at the University of Tampa. Carolyn has been a driving force in creating a close-knit, family-like environment within her chapter, where everyone feels welcome and supported. As a passionate future educator, Carolyn credits her KDP community with providing her with the resources, friendships, and mentorship opportunities that have helped her thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Q: How has your KDP community helped you thrive in the classroom?
A: My KDP community has been a tremendous support in helping me thrive in the classroom. As the president of KDP at the University of Tampa, I strive to create a close-knit, family-like environment where everyone feels accepted. This sense of belonging has made the KDP community incredibly helpful in my growth as an educator, as I know I have a strong support system behind me.

The friendships and connections I’ve built with fellow members have provided me with valuable resources and fresh ideas to implement in my teaching. We all help each other out, whether it’s sharing lesson plans, discussing classroom challenges, or offering feedback on strategies. The mentorship opportunities within KDP have been especially impactful; experienced educators guide us through challenges, while newer members bring fresh perspectives, creating a rich learning environment for everyone.

Being part of KDP has greatly enriched my teaching journey and empowered me to be a more effective and passionate educator.

Q: What inspires you to teach?
A: What truly inspires me to teach is witnessing the incredible growth of my students, both personally and academically. Each day, I’m motivated by their curiosity and enthusiasm; seeing them overcome challenges and reach new milestones fills me with joy. I strive to create a safe space where they can learn and be themselves, allowing them to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. It’s a privilege to be part of their journey, and their successes remind me why I chose this path.
Every student brings a unique story and perspective, and their diverse experiences continually fuel my passion for teaching. When I see them engage with the material, share their ideas, and support each other, I am reminded of the impact we can have together. Building relationships with my students and creating a sense of community makes every moment in the classroom rewarding, and I feel grateful to guide them as they discover their potential and grow into confident individuals.

Q: Outside the classroom, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
A: Outside the classroom, I enjoy a variety of hobbies that help me unwind and stay balanced. Line dancing is one of my favorites; it’s a fun way to stay active while connecting with others through music and movement. I also cherish spending time with friends, whether we’re exploring new places or simply enjoying each other’s company.

Traveling is another passion of mine; I love experiencing different cultures, trying new foods, and soaking in the beauty of new landscapes. I’m increasingly focused on mental health and finding ways to prevent burnout, which has led me to explore mindfulness practices and self-care routines. Music plays a big role in my life, too; I love discovering new artists and genres, and I often find that music provides a perfect backdrop for relaxation and inspiration. These interests help me recharge and maintain a positive outlook, both in and out of the classroom.
