We’re excited to spotlight Douglass Bailey, a passionate educator and entertainer with over 20 years of experience. As a STEM academic advisor and a doctoral student in Educational Technology Leadership at New Jersey City University, Douglass values the growing KDP community and the support it provides.
Q: How has your KDP community helped you thrive in the classroom?
A: The KDP community here at New Jersey City University is still developing and growing, but I will say the standards to join KDP, really helped me to thrive during graduate studies. I was seeking a honor society that would contribute to my progression, as I am a current doctoral student (Ed.D). The podcast, blogs and scholarship opportunities are a great benefit as I continue my research studies. I look forward to getting more involved with my chapter, when the chance presents itself.
Q: What inspires you to teach?
A: What has inspired me to teach previously as a GED instructor and currently as an academic advisor, is the opportunity to show students what the core components that make a good educator - empathy, accountability, care and concern. Other than the foundations of any given curriculum, students need to know that they will be supported on a social and emotional level as well. Honoring my ancestors that sacrificed so much for me to get to this level is an added bonus.
Q: Outside the classroom, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
A: Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, retro video games, vlogging and music. I started a podcast titled Co-BETE (Community Broadcasting Education, Technology and Entertainment) and I look forward to creating more educational initiatives that are student-centered focused with STEM, STEAM and STREAM approaches. I am also documenting my doctoral journey with a Facebook page: Doctoral Road with D.Bail. My goal is to motivate and inspire others of all ages and walks of life.
