Meet Dr. Pede Intong Casing, a KDP teacher member and mathematics educator with more than sixteen years of experience teaching in both the Philippines and the United States. He currently serves as a Mathematics Teacher at Alamogordo High School in the Alamogordo Public Schools District in New Mexico, where he is known for his commitment to student success, innovative instruction, and service beyond the classroom.

Dr. Casing holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Mathematical Sciences with a specialization in Mathematics Education from the University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines. He also earned a Master of Arts in Education in Mathematics from Saint Columban College and a Bachelor of Secondary Education in Mathematics, graduating magna cum laude from Mindanao State University–Buug Campus. Continuing his commitment to inclusive and responsive teaching, he is currently pursuing an additional graduate degree in Special Education.

Teaching Is Not a Solo Act

On most school days in Alamogordo, New Mexico, Dr. Casing can be found doing more than teaching mathematics. He is building confidence, shaping curiosity, and reminding students—often quietly—that they are capable of more than they think.

“Great teaching is never done alone,” Dr. Casing said. “My KDP community has helped me thrive in the classroom through shared ideas, and constant encouragement.”

That sense of professional community, he explains, has been central to his growth. Being surrounded by educators who value scholarship, integrity, and collaboration has renewed his confidence and strengthened his commitment to leadership and service. “It pushes me to grow professionally and to show up every day as a better teacher for my students,” he added.

Inside the Classroom

Dr. Casing’s classroom is defined by engagement rather than rote instruction. His approach centers on motivating students to participate actively and believe in their own ability to learn.

“I develop classroom teaching strategies that motivate my students to learn and actively engage in the process,” he said. “Seeing students grow in confidence, overcome challenges, and realize they are capable of more than they thought—that’s what drives me to keep going.”

Research, Recognition, and Results

A passionate researcher, Dr. Casing has presented and published work at national and international conferences, including the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics Research Conference. There, he introduced his original Posing–Exploring–Doing–Evaluating (PEDE) Model, designed to deepen student understanding through inquiry-based learning.

His work has earned wide recognition, including Best Presenter at the IREC Conference in New York, honors as an Outstanding Teacher in Zamboanga Sibugay, and selection as a Metrobank Outstanding Teacher Second Round Qualifier.

Leadership Beyond the Lesson Plan

Outside the classroom, Dr. Casing serves as a winning coach in Medical Math, Research, and Data Science and Analytics competitions, guiding students to state and national recognition. He has also contributed at the systems level as a Review Team Leader for Mathematics Instructional Materials at the New Mexico Public Education Department.

“Education can change lives, starting with one student at a time,” he said. “Teaching allows me to serve, lead, and make a lasting impact—not just through lessons, but by helping students discover their purpose and potential.”

He also enjoys traveling, writing research focused on effective classroom strategies, and staying professionally engaged through organizations like KDP. Growth, he believes, is both a responsibility and a choice.
