Local Dues FAQ
Member dues are crucial to both the KDP organization and to individual chapters. Chapters need funding to successfully host initiations, service projects, professional development activities, and even to send members to KDP’S biennial conference, Convocation. Each chapter collects funds differently, but we are here to ensure that this process is as simple as possible.
What are Chapter dues vs. KDP membership dues?
KDP Membership dues are $65 annually for students, and $95 annually for teachers. These dues cover each member’s access to benefits, discounts, and resources provided by KDP. Chapters also may collect chapter dues at the discretion of chapter leaders. These fees can cover initiation supplies, programming, and more. These dues may not be more than $50/initiate. The average cost of chapter dues is between $10 and $25 per initiate.
Are there any additional fees for membership?
Chapters also may have a one-time initiation fee. This is a cost to new initiates only and is
charged to cover the cost of the initiation ceremony and other fees incurred by recruitment.
What can we use the funds for?
Chapter funds can be spent on items related to the chapter. Any activities, supplies, or costs that benefit the chapter is an acceptable use of the chapter’s funds. Remember to keep a ledger of funds in and out to make the completion of your Chapter Affiliation Agreement easier.

How can we collect dues?
If you choose to collect dues, there are a few ways you can do it. You can:
- Have chapter dues added to the National application. All pending applicants will be prompted to pay both KDP Membership and Chapter Dues. Then the funds can be direct deposited into your chapter’s account. To receive more details or enroll in the program, please contact your Member Experience Manager.
- Have your initiates pay you via cash or check.
- Use Venmo, Cash App, PayPal, or other money-sharing applications linked to your chapter’s bank account.
