We’re excited to spotlight Nick McCoy, a future teacher whose KDP community at Vanderbilt has strengthened his passion for education through supportive mentorship and a true sense of belonging.

Q: How has your KDP community helped you thrive in the classroom?
A: My KDP community has helped my thrive by fostering supportive spaces of belonging for all types of educators. Being a part of my chapter has reaffirmed my passion for teaching and provided me many opportunities for mentorship and guidance from fellow teacher candidates on Vanderbilt’s campus.

Q: What inspires you to teach?
A: My passion for teaching stems from my desire to be a strong male-role model for the next generation of global citizens. My other inspiration comes from the fact that all of my grandparents were teachers which instilled in me the importance of equipped, multigenerational, and supported educators.

Q: Outside the classroom, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
A: I love museums, going to concerts in Nashville, and studying history.
