We’re excited to spotlight Steven Crawford—educator, PhD candidate, and leader making a difference! With 10 years in the classroom, he finds joy in witnessing students’ “I got it!” moments. As President of KDP's Omega Beta at Mississippi Valley State University and Beta Rho Chapter of Omega Psi Phi, he’s all about lifting others up.
Q: How has your KDP community helped you thrive in the classroom?
A: Kappa Delta Pi has helped me in the classroom through application of lessons learned from my induction ceremony to exposure and networking with high-quality veterans in the field. Being a member has granted me the opportunity to receive as well as paying it forward regarding tricks of the trade. As a current PhD candidate in Education Administration, I find the availability of scholarships to also be a great advantage of Kappa Delta Pi membership.
Q: What inspires you to teach?
A: I consider serving in the educational realm one of the most rewarding careers possible. It is the sensation of making children smile as they experience "I got it" moments in the classroom that inspires me to teach. I'm proud to say that after 10 years in the field, I proudly recognize evidence of my impact on former students and their exhibition of morals and life lessons.
Q: Outside the classroom, what hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
A: Outside of the classroom, I enjoy reading, undergoing various projects, and providing community service through the various memberships I hold in organizations. Majority of my time goes to serving as president of my local chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity which requires an abundance of management, planning prowess, and social engagement.
