KDP is proud to spotlight one of our newest members, Brooke Tiano, an ESE Support Facilitator whose passion for inclusive education and student-centered teaching makes her an incredible addition to her KDP community.
Finding Connection and Purpose Through KDP
As a special education teacher and new KDP member, Brooke shares that joining KDP has already been transformative.
“KDP has connected me with educators who truly understand the heart and complexity of teaching—especially in special education, where every student’s journey is unique.”
Through virtual events, shared resources, and member support, she has found fresh strategies for differentiation, behavior support, and inclusive instructional practices. But more than anything, she’s found encouragement.
“The shared passion from fellow members reminds me that I’m part of something bigger—a network of professionals who believe in equity, empathy, and excellence.”
Becoming part of the Alpha Theta Psi Chapter has given her a renewed sense of purpose. The chapter’s warm welcome and collaborative spirit have helped her thrive, reinforcing that she is never alone in the work she does.
Inspired by Students Every Day
Brooke’s heart for her students shines through in everything she does.
She finds the greatest joy in celebrating the small, powerful victories—
the first time a student reads independently…
makes a new friend…
or begins to believe in themselves.
“These moments remind me why I do this. Teaching in special education means meeting kids exactly where they are and helping them discover what they’re capable of.”
Her students’ resilience, curiosity, and joy continually inspire her. Brooke believes these reciprocal moments, when students teach us just as much as we teach them—are what make education meaningful.
Recharging Through Family, Journaling, and Nature
Outside the classroom, Brooke stays grounded through simple, intentional moments. Time with her family—whether a quiet evening at home or a spontaneous beach day—is her anchor.
Being near the ocean is her happy place: “There’s something about the waves and fresh air that helps me reset.”
Brooke also enjoys journaling to reflect and stay connected to her goals as an educator, and she finds peace in spending time outdoors, whether it's a walk through the woods or sitting in the sun. These moments help her recharge so that she can show up fully for her students.
