Meet April Federico, a member of the Epsilon Rho Chapter at Rhode Island College. For April, the classroom is a place of profound transformation, and she doesn't just teach subjects; she unlocks potential. “I’m inspired to teach because I believe education has the power to change the trajectory of a person’s life,” April shares. “That moment when a student understands something new, feels seen, or realizes they are capable—that’s what motivates me.”
By combining her passions for creativity and human connection, she strives to be the kind of educator who opens doors for students, helping them see possibilities for a future they may not yet recognize.
April’s journey as an "educator-scholar" has been fueled by her KDP community. Through KDP, she has gained access to the research and professional resources that allow her to stay intentional and reflective in her practice. Beyond the pedagogy, the organization provided the validation she needed to dream bigger. “Being recognized for my commitment to education validated my path and motivated me to pursue higher goals, including continued graduate study and future doctoral work,” she explains.
KDP has shaped how April shows up in collaborative spaces, teaching her to lead with empathy, professionalism, and a relentless growth mindset.
To maintain that high level of energy and inspiration, April prioritizes a holistic approach to her own well-being.
Outside the classroom, she stays grounded through the mental focus of Pilates and movement-based fitness. Whether she is journaling or exploring mindfulness, she views personal development as an essential part of her professional identity. “These interests not only bring me balance in my own life but also influence how I show up as an educator,” April says, “helping me model healthy habits, resilience, and lifelong learning for my students.” From the Pilates studio to the doctoral path, April is a testament to the power of a purpose-driven life.
