For Dr. Darlene Hester-Slade, a teacher in Richmond Public Schools, education is about helping students see what is possible within themselves.

“I teach to turn potential into power,” Dr. Hester-Slade shared. “Too many students face the world without a support system, and I am committed to being the mentor who changes that.”

Through her work in the classroom, she uses her knowledge, experiences, and care for students to help them grow with confidence and purpose. Her goal is not only to inspire the students in front of her, but to spark something that can continue for generations.

“By sharing my knowledge and life experiences, I aim to help students soar and ignite a chain reaction of inspiration for generations to come,” she said.

Kappa Delta Pi has also become an important part of Dr. Hester-Slade’s journey as an educator. For her, KDP is more than a professional organization.

“KDP has provided me with more than just a network; it’s provided a home,” she shared. “Through the exchange of creativity and shared experiences, I’ve found a community of peers who truly understand the field of education.”

She describes KDP as her favorite outlet for brainstorming new ideas and finding the support needed to bring those ideas to life.

Outside the classroom, Dr. Hester-Slade is an explorer at heart. Whether she is seeing the world firsthand or traveling through the pages of a great book, she finds joy in discovery. What she values most, though, is the human connection that comes with every journey.

“Nothing beats the inspiration that comes from meeting new and interesting people,” she shared.

Dr. Hester-Slade’s commitment to mentorship, student empowerment, and meaningful connection reflects the heart of what it means to be part of the KDP community.
