Ms. Mary Brower, a teacher at Magnet Academy of Cultural Arts, brings curiosity, connection, and a love of history into her classroom every day. Her own “nerdiness” for history fuels her enthusiasm and helps make learning engaging and meaningful for her students.
Mary Brower came to KDP not through a college chapter, but through a conversation. KDP member Khalil Roy introduced her to the organization, and it was the first time she’d heard of Kappa Delta Pi. Now, she serves as a Community Ambassador for Louisiana, connecting with fellow KDP members in her state and making sure more educators know KDP exists.
“What inspires me to teach is the opportunity to positively impact students’ lives and to foster a lifelong love of learning,” Mary shared. She is passionate about helping students “develop critical thinking skills, explore new ideas, and understand the world around them.”
Mary’s classroom energy comes from what she proudly calls her own “nerdiness” for history. That passion helps her bring lessons to life in a way that feels engaging and meaningful for her students. Seeing students grow in confidence, curiosity, and understanding is what keeps her motivated to continue improving her practice and creating a classroom where students feel supported.
KDP has also played an important role in Mary’s growth as an educator. “Being part of the Kappa Delta Pi community has provided me with a supportive network of dedicated educators who share a commitment to excellence and continuous growth,” she said. Through collaboration, professional development, and the exchange of ideas, Mary has gained “new strategies and perspectives” that enhance her teaching.
She also credits KDP’s emphasis on leadership and service with inspiring her to keep building “a positive and engaging learning environment” for her students.
Outside the classroom, Mary continues learning every chance she gets. She enjoys attending institutes, seminars, and conferences hosted by historical organizations, experiences that allow her to deepen her understanding of different periods and perspectives.
“My love for continuous learning in history fuels my enthusiasm and keeps me inspired to bring fresh insights into my teaching,” Mary shared.
Mary’s passion for history, commitment to student growth, and dedication to lifelong learning reflect the heart of what it means to be part of the KDP community.
