After 14 years in the classroom, KDP member Mrs. Janneth Martinez is preparing for an exciting new chapter in her career. The fifth-grade reading and writing teacher will soon transition into an assistant principal role, where she will continue supporting students, families, and fellow educators.

Throughout her career, Janneth has remained focused on one belief: every student needs an educator who believes in them.

“My students inspire me to continue growing as an educator and to seek resources that provide equitable opportunities and access for all learners,” she shared.

Janneth is passionate about building meaningful relationships with her students and partnering with their families to help each child reach their full potential. While every school year brings new challenges, watching her students grow, overcome obstacles, and achieve their goals continues to motivate her.

KDP has also played an important role in her professional journey. Through KDP newsletters and the online discussion forum, Janneth has connected with educators from across the country, learned from their experiences, and stayed engaged with new ideas in education.

“My KDP community has provided a positive and inspiring platform that has kept me motivated in my work as an educator,” she said.

That support was especially meaningful while Janneth completed her master’s program and balanced graduate studies with teaching. KDP gave her a sense of belonging, encouragement, and connection during a demanding season of her career. As she moves into school leadership, she continues to value the professional relationships and shared commitment to excellence found within the KDP community.

Janneth’s dedication to education extends beyond her classroom. She was selected for the Houston Loves Teachers Leadership Cohort, which gave her the opportunity to attend the Holdsworth Center, connect with other educators, and reflect on her purpose as an educational leader.

She also served on a committee that reviewed instructional materials and provided feedback to the Department of Education. The experience strengthened her belief that educators must use their voices and expertise to help shape the future of education.

“We are the driving force behind our students’ success,” Janneth shared. “Our students deserve educators who advocate for them both inside and outside the classroom.”

As Janneth prepares to step into her new assistant principal role, she remains committed to creating equitable opportunities, supporting educators, partnering with families, and helping every student feel seen, encouraged, and capable of success.
