Dr. Michelle Aguiar-Flenniken has built her career around a simple belief: when educators are supported, children benefit.
Her work in early childhood education has taken many forms, including training, coaching, mentoring, leadership, and professional development. No matter the setting, her focus remains the same. She wants educators to feel confident in their work, supported through challenges, and equipped to create meaningful learning experiences for young children.
“I believe that investing in educators is one of the most powerful ways to improve outcomes for young children,” Michelle shared.
Mentoring is especially meaningful to her. She enjoys helping both new and experienced educators think through challenges, recognize their strengths, and take the next step in their professional growth. For Michelle, that work is not about having all the answers. It is about creating space for educators to reflect, build confidence, and continue learning.
Her involvement with KDP has given her another way to support the profession.
As a volunteer scholarship reviewer, Michelle helps recognize future educators who show strong leadership, academic excellence, and a genuine commitment to teaching. She values the opportunity to encourage emerging professionals and play a small role in helping them move forward.
Michelle also reviews courses for Teaching Channel through KDP. That experience keeps her connected to new ideas and current practices while allowing her to help strengthen professional learning for educators.
“My involvement with KDP has played a significant role in my professional growth and has helped me thrive as an educator and leader,” she said.
KDP has also helped Michelle expand her professional network and feel more connected to the broader education community. Through her volunteer work, she has found meaningful ways to give back while continuing to grow herself.
That commitment to learning and service runs through everything she does. Michelle wants educators to feel prepared, valued, and encouraged because she knows the impact that support can have on classrooms, families, and children.
When she is not working or volunteering, Michelle enjoys spending time with her family, going on new adventures, and taking Disney cruises together.
