Mrs. Connie Bartie-Dunwoody has spent much of her life helping and serving others.
Now a teacher in Cobb County School District, Mrs. Bartie-Dunwoody is in her third career and has been teaching for the past six years. Before entering the classroom, she served 22 years in the United States military and later worked for more than 15 years in a hospital setting supporting individuals with emotional and psychological needs.
While balancing two careers, Mrs. Bartie-Dunwoody also returned to school and earned her master’s degree. She continued her education in Special Education, bringing both professional and personal experience into the work she does with students.
Her adult son with autism has been one of her greatest inspirations as an educator. His experiences have helped shape the way she thinks about preparing students for life beyond school.
“I know that my students will always need some type of support as they become adults, so I work to teach them their basic needs and daily living skills and inspire them to learn in small ways.”
Mrs. Bartie-Dunwoody also credits her KDP community with providing support and connection throughout her journey as an educator.
“My KDP community has been an invaluable source of support, encouragement, and professional growth in my classroom. Being part of this community has connected me with like-minded educators who are committed to excellence, equity, and continuous improvement.”
Outside of the classroom, Mrs. Bartie-Dunwoody enjoys reading, window shopping, spending time with family, and caring for those she loves. She has been married for more than 32 years and is a proud mother of three and grandmother of three.
From military service to healthcare to education, Mrs. Bartie-Dunwoody has built a career around supporting others. Today, she continues that work by helping her students build the skills, confidence, and independence they need for their futures.
