Happy November everyone!

I am a professor in secondary teacher education at Illinois State University.  Question for those of you currently teaching or who have found jobs already:  What is the search process like for you, and what recommendations do you have for our teacher candidates who are about to embark on the job search?  So many are about to student teach in January, and as their instructor, what should I share with them to help them in their search?  Thanks!

*Search for a position in the field they would be okay with teaching for free. Teaching is a ministry that  help others master their level of learning.  If you can teach it for free then money will not be the payment you look for to stay in the field when challenges happen in and out the classroom.

*Gain as much volunteer experience in different avenues to expand your diversity exposure, ie at risk youth programs, foster care homes, foster care intake, disability group homes, drug and alcohol rehabilitation for youth, detention education programs etc.

*Enroll into courses for growing epidemics like ACES, CASA volunteer, Domestic Violence shelters to experience the unspoken voices that could be in the classroom and how to approach like sensitivities without embarrassing or offending
