A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with over 10 years of experience in finance and accounting, Matt Bova brings both expertise and heart to his role as KDP’s National Board Treasurer. He currently serves as the Associate Director of Accounting at Verizon Communications in Lake Mary, Florida, where he leads a team responsible for consolidating, closing, and reporting for all of Verizon’s companies.
Although Matt didn’t come from a traditional education background, KDP has become his bridge into a world he deeply admires. “It’s my window into the challenges, triumphs, and pressing needs of today’s educators,” he shares. “For me, KDP is more than just a board I serve on; it’s my personal connection to the field—my way of being an ally and an advocate.”
The Power of “Who”
“School taught me the what,” Matt explains. “But the most unexpected and powerful lesson of my career has been the who.”
He learned early on that while hard work and intelligence can open doors, it’s relationships that unlock entirely new worlds. That’s why community sits at the heart of his personal and professional mission.
“Your community—family, friends, colleagues, or an organization like KDP—is your support system and your springboard. They’re the people who champion you, challenge you, and connect you to your next great chapter.”
A Wish for Teachers Today
Matt is aware of the realities educators face. “It’s no secret that teachers are being asked to do the impossible. They’re overworked, underpaid, and we’re facing an alarming shortage of these essential professionals.”
While he knows he can’t solve systemic issues alone, his commitment is strong. “My deepest wish is for teachers to be valued in a way that truly reflects their monumental importance. If KDP can make a teacher’s burden even a little lighter—if we can help them feel seen and respected—then that is work I will do everything in my power to advance.”
The Teacher Who Changed Everything
Matt’s heart for service traces back to one unforgettable moment. As a sophomore in a room full of seniors, he was far from the most engaged student—until his high school accounting teacher pulled him aside.
“He didn’t just tell me I was doing well,” Matt recalls. “He saw something in me. He took the time to mentor me, encourage me, and show me what a future in business and accounting could look like. That single conversation changed the trajectory of my life.”
That teacher became the reason Matt pursued his career and one of the driving forces behind his desire to give back.
Why KDP?
For Matt, education is the bedrock of society. Every innovation, every thriving business, every strong community can trace its beginnings back to a classroom. His own story is proof.
“Joining the KDP Board was my opportunity to give back in a meaningful way. I may not be an educator by trade, but I can leverage my background to ensure this organization is strong, sustainable, and capable of supporting the true heroes of our society—our teachers.”
